As you’re driving down “The Boulevard”, 264, or even crossing the Lesner Bridge, you may notice a dazzling pink building shining bright in Town Center of Virginia Beach. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we consciously dressed the “Clark Nexsen building” for the occasion: pink – from her head to her toes.

Clark Nexsen is the mastermind behind the lighting design for this building. Lighting designers, Jonathan Walker and Jason Brognano, led this lighting project. “We like to think beyond the building and bring a structure’s full potential to life. This was a blank canvas; a future iconic building that could become a talking piece through our lighting design capabilities”, said Brognano. The design work started over a year and half before the building was even up. They worked through wiring diagrams, drew mock ups, identified manufacturers, tested and evaluated products; all to, quite literally, brighten your day. The lighting system installed is capable of displaying 16 million colors through an easy “click wheel” controlled, manually, from inside the building. The LED lights use little energy and the design makes for easy maintenance.

Since installed, Town Center has used the lights to bring attention to good causes and celebrate holidays and special events. The building is typically red, white and blue for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veteran’s Day, orange for Halloween, and red and green for the holiday season. The building even goes “green” by turning off the lights in honor of Earth Hour every year.

For the remainder of the month, we will continue to shine pink for breast cancer awareness. In addition, several businesses in Town Center are helping honor those that have been affected by breast cancer by giving back. Take a look;
